Just wanted to give a big thanks to everyone at the Blackbird Cafe for a FANTASTIC NEW YEAR'S My friends and I haven't stoped talking about what a great night we had and have made an unanimous decision it was the best NYE EVER! Thnak you to all the amazingly fun and friendly staff who ensured a wonderful night was had by all. We will all definitely be back as soon as we have recovered from the season! Happy New Year to all at Blackbird. Best wishes for the 2003! Michelle Lee _____________________________________________________________________________________________ We're so pleased to have received this fab review from Jo-anne Hui. Jo-Anne is a university student and has told us she just can't get enough of Blackbird! This review was released in a uni newspaper which was great.!! - Thanks Jo-Anne!!! Gone are the days when cheap, student-friendly meals originate from tacky, globalised food-chains. Gone are the days when cheap, student-friendly eateries are staffed by pimply 16-year olds in ugly polyester uniforms. Thank God for the Blackbird Cafe. Featured in the Cheapeats Guide 2001, the Blackbird promises sumptuous meals without burning holes in your pockets. You'll keep coming back for more - with a 10% student discount and 2 for 1 middies, who can resist? Funky, trendy (but not too try-hard) and a little quirky, the Blackbird Cafe exudes a fun and laid-back vibe. However, the swish interior is not compensated for practicality. For those who choose to sit on the balcony, tall (but trendy) heaters keep customers smiling and toasty - no great, whipping gale will disturb you, even on a cold winter's night. And fear not - if you're missing out on a hell of an episode of Buffy tonight, there's a TV in the toilet for your convenience. The expansive menu caters for every Tom, Dick and Harry's taste buds. $4.50 will get you a hot-stone pizza with garlic, herb and olive tapenade. I was extremely impressed by the monstrous serving of lentil dahl ($6.90). A definite hit on the menu is the tandoori chicken salad ($13.90). Apparently this dish sells every single night without fail - and not without good reason. Spicy, colourful and filling, you can't leave without having sampled the warm chicken and light, crispy pappadums. On this particular evening, I dined with a lovely couple who fed each other the affogatocoupe (try saying that ten times - $9.90) and was quite baffled by the mechanics of it. Accompanied by a shot of espresso were scoops of vanilla ice cream, the liqueur of choice and toffee. What was to be done with the espresso? If one drizzled it on top, it would kill the ice cream. However, devouring the triple-devil chocolate cake ($6.50) was simple. Thick, rich layers of almond, icing sugar and chocolate melted on the tongue as we reached out for forkfuls more. Watch out on the weekends, when the staff dress-up. Speedy service and polite courtesy comes in the form of a waiter shakin' it up in a coconut-shell brassiere. Unless it's 80's night where bad music thunders from the speakers, give this one a go - two thumbs up. Jo-anne Hui
Qantas Function: "Thank You" for a wonderful evening I have received many positive comments from the night and I know everyone had fun. The set up was fantastic, the lounge area really worked with the finger food platters. The balcony area was well and truly warm enough and it suited our group completely. Special mention goes to our two wonderful waitering staff, who looked after us. They kept the drinks and food flowing all night and their professional personable service was commendable. Thank you again for making us so welcome. Thank you for providing us with the venue at such short notice and for your help with organising the party. We look forward to planning our next event at Blackbirds. Julia Kerrigan Administration Assistant, Qantas.
18th Birthday Party: "You Guys Rock" To all the Staff at Blackbird Cafe, I would like to thank each and everyone of you who worked on Friday night and helped run my 18th Birthday celebrations in your Lounge Area. I can honestly say that Blackbird is the best restaurant in Darling Harbour, perhaps Sydney. All of the people who went said that it was a great venue and had a ball. Thank you soooo much for your help throughout the night and I know that everyone who went will remember that night with fond memories. You guys rock and keep up the good work. Hope to see you very soon. Enrique Horna
